How to Raise Money as a Kid
Getting a job for anyone is hard work, inlcuding a kid. However, as a kid, you are still subject to so many limitations that it can be intimidating to find jobs that will pay you cash. No matter what you do, realize that you will have to work hard, or people will not pay you. Do not expect to be paid just because you are nice or because your parents are nice. Hard work is the key.
Instructions
Do yard work. This can include a lot of things like: mowing lawns (most people have their own lawn mower and are willing to let use it if you are old enough and prove to be responsible), rake leaves, pick up broken branches, weed a garden, sweep a walkway, or prune dead flowers or grasses. If the work is for a neighbor and not your parents, you will have to get your courage up to ask the first time--but if you do not ask for too much money, the people you ask will probably be glad for you to come back. Help with house chores. There are a few that no one wants to do but that must be done. Offer to clean windows for a per-window charge. That way you can come back several times and get paid on each window finished. If the weather is nice, you can do the outside as well. Other chores might include organizing the pantry, vacuum cleaning, organizing under sinks, and cleaning baseboards and window sills. Offer services such as dog walking, babysitting (if you are over 12), mail pickup if people are away, flower planting, car washing or firewood stacking. Some elderly people even like to be read to if their eyesight is failing. Offer your services as an apprentice for a small wage at places where the owner might be willing to have you help. This could be a bakery, any type of shop, an antique store or whatever else you might have close by. Until you are 15 or 16, no one will be able to give you a paycheck but might choose to pay you cash. Do not expect a lot of money. People want to see that you can work hard; then, after they know they can count on you, they will be happy to pay you. Do not accept any job without communicating with your parents and getting their approval. Save your money and don't spend it just on frivilous things like candy. If you have a goal and can tell people why you are working, they are more likely to help you out.
