How to Make Fireman Hats
Making a fireman hat for your little firefighter fan is easy and fun. All you need is a little newspaper, some glue, a spaghetti strainer and some red paint. You can even spiff up the hat by adding a badge made of tin foil. This is a fun thing to make for fireman birthday party favors for the kids to wear. It also puts a finishing touch on a homemade firefighter Halloween costume. The finished hats are lightweight and easy for your young firefighter to wear, so if you're feeling crafty try making this with your child.
Things You'll Need
- Colander Red paint Newspaper Water Glue Tin foil Cardboard Black marker
Instructions
Find a colander that fits your child's head. Soak three sheets of newspaper with water. Like paper mache, you're going to use the colander to make the form of the hat. Wrap the wet newspaper around the colander, pressing it against the colander tightly to form the shape of the hat. Allow to dry. Glue any loose flaps or folds of newspapers. Allow glue to dry. Remove colander. The newspaper will hold its shape stiffly. Paint the hat with red paint, and allow to dry. You may want to do more than one coat for a deeper red color. To add a badge to the hat, cut out a badge shape from cardboard, cover with tin foil and decorate with a black marker. Glue this to the front of the hat.
