Donate Baby Furniture
Baby furniture is often expensive and used briefly. By donating baby furniture you are able to give less fortunate parents and organizations the opportunity to provide their babies with a reliable place to sleep, be changed and play. Donated baby furniture does not have to be brand new or name brand, just well kept and clean. Consider the below suggestions when deciding what to do with your unneeded baby furniture.
-
Donate to a Nonprofit Organization
-
Nonprofit organizations, such as Goodwill, Salvation Army and the YMCA, offer not-for--profit stores throughout the United States. Such organizations provide goods at a significantly reduced rate so they can be purchased by those less fortunate. The ability to do so comes from more donations by community members who no longer need certain items, such as baby furniture.
Most nonprofit organizations who have stores, such as Goodwill, offer a drive-up feature that allows you to drop the furniture off quickly and easily. Your donation can then be written up for tax purchases and you can be on your way. The money made off of your donation will then go toward funding programs in the community, providing salaries for disabled employees working at nonprofit organizations or other worthy causes.
Some nonprofit organization will offer to pick up your donated items. If the baby furniture you are looking to donate is excessively heavy or cumbersome you can request for their trucks and personnel to come to your house.
Donate to a Religious Venue
-
Churches, temples and mosques routinely offer child-care service during services and events. With so many other avenues for monetary donations, keeping up with needed baby furniture is often overlooked. Donating your used or new baby furniture to a place of worship is an excellent way of giving back.
In most cases you will need to clear your donation with the head of the nursery or babysitting facilities. Since some donations may not be as easily accommodated as others, advanced notice will allow proper arrangements, such as labor, to be made.
Donation of baby furniture to a church, temple or mosque is also tax deductible.
Donate to a Young Mother's Program
-
Many cities throughout the United States offer young mother's programs for teenage and young adult mothers. Such facilities offer reduced or free diapers, formula, baby food, clothing and furniture.
The majority of women or families frequenting young mother programs will be between 14 and 21, single and low-income. The ability to go out and buy new baby furniture or other child needs is very limited. By donating baby furniture to an organization such as this you are providing young mothers, and their babies, with furniture they may have only dreamed about.
Most young mother programs will have designated pick-up or drop-off locations for convenience and ease. For large pieces of baby furniture, such as a crib or changing table, you can call ahead for additional arrangements. In some cases, the baby furniture you donate may be directly transported to a young mother's home.
