The Morehead Planetarium and Science Center in Chapel Hill, is one of the world's largest planetariums and features a 68-foot domed star theatre, several science exhibits, classrooms, observation decks, art galleries, rose gardens and a giant sundial. Discovery Place in Charlotte is a hands-on science museum featuring daily programs and an Imax theatre. Other science attractions include the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island, the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh and the Imagination Station Science Museum in Wilson.

    • History lessons taught in the classroom have a tendency to seem dull to kids. If you want your child excited about history, several destinations in North Carolina will help make this possible. Kids love quirky history and Korner's Folly in Kernersville will not disappoint. Located on Main Street, the building is the former home of Jules Gilmer Korner, an interior designer, painter and decorator. The home features trap doors, cubby holes, 15 fireplaces, child-sized rooms, artwork and murals. Other destinations in the state that make history fun include the Wheels through Time Museum in Maggie Valley and the Frisco Native American Museum.

    • The younger a person is when they learn the value of fitness, the easier it will be to lead a healthy life. While North Carolina temperatures are typically comfortable, outdoor exercise is not possible on some days.     • Most kids love theatre performances, music and art. North Carolina has several destinations that feature kid-oriented performing arts exhibits and events. ImaginOn is located in Charlotte. In addition to the theatre and library, ImaginOn exhibits include celebrations of community diversity, a child-sized stage and Storylab, a kid-sized version of the Charlotte trolley and the StoryJar, filled with computer stations and games that highlight finger painting, art, reading and a costume shop. Other performing arts attractions in North Carolina include the Raleigh Little Theatre and the Music Explorium in Durham.
