How to Decorate Day Care Centers

A day care center should be a colorful environment that fosters fun and creativity. If you're starting a day care center or you wish to give your current day care center a much-needed face lift, learn how to incorporate colors, art and education into your child care facility.

Things You'll Need

  • Non-toxic paint
  • Label maker
  • Masking tape
  • Marker
  • Yarn
  • Clothespin
  • Tacks
  • Stencil
  • Scissors
  • Mural or wall appliqué

Instructions

    • 1

Let each child choose a non-toxic paint color to press his palm into, then have the children press their hands against the wall. Use a label maker or masking tape to write the names of the children in your day care center. Match each name with each unique hand print.

    • 2

Use yarn to make an "X" across the ceiling. Tack the yarn into four corners of the ceiling. Use clothespins to hang children's artwork from the yarn.

    • 3

Use a stencil to create letters of the alphabet. Cut the letters out of paper. Give a letter to each child and allow each of them to decorate it any way they wish. Hang the letters throughout the room.

    • 4

Embrace the holidays with decorations. Wrap your day care center's door like a giant present in December. All you need is wrapping paper, tape and a few bows.

    • 5

Choose a theme or encourage the children to pick a theme for the day care center. Popular themes are the beach, a jungle or a circus. If you're artistic, you can paint a mural on the wall; if you're not, many home decor stores sell wall murals and appliqués that are ideal for any themed room.
