In this day and age where technology reigns, parents have the ability to wire their homes with a Nanny Cam. Nanny Cams are small surveillance cameras that can be hidden in various places around the house and also in objects. While some nannies may feel they are being violated, knowing you're being watched protects you from doing something wrong and makes the parent feel at ease. You will feel more at ease, however, once you know how to spot possible nanny cams. Perhaps you don't want to get caught changing your clothes or singing show tunes. But be careful when you are looking for the cameras because it could cost you your nanny position.

Think like a parent and know where to look. The parents main concern is their child, so the nanny cam is going to be where you interact with the child the most, like the nursery. Obvious locations include the inside a stuffed animal, a pillow or inside a clock. More covert places might include iPods, smoke detectors and electrical outlets. Use a Magnetic Field Meter. For as little as $14, you can purchase a magnetic field meter that picks up on electromagnetic pulses that are being emitted from an object that wouldn't normally have an electronic component, such as a teddy bear. Again, be careful walking around the house with this meter searching for hidden cameras as it will look pretty suspicious if you are caught. Ask the parents. Surveillance should not be a secret since its purpose is to keep you on your toes and keep you doing your job correctly. It does not hurt to ask since you could lose your job by tampering with a nanny cam or by blatantly looking for one. The laws vary from state to state regarding surveillance cameras, and the parents themselves could be doing something illegal.
