How to Bring Your Period Back After a Lupron Shot
A Lupron shot is used to stimulate production of estrogen. Lupron was initially developed as a treatment for advanced prostate cancer in men. It is also prescribed to women who are suffering from severe endometriosis, a condition in which cells that would ordinarily line the uterus reproduce and thrive outside of the uterus, causing pain and infertility. The hormones in the Lupron shot cause menstruation to cease, and bringing a period back after a Lupron shot should be done under a doctor's instruction only.
Instructions
Cease the Lupron shot for a period of at least 90 days. Menstruation may begin to reoccur naturally. Contact your doctor if menstruation has not occurred within 90 days of the final dose of Lupron. This can be an indication of further problems. Take progesterone pills or supplements for five to seven days. These medications, such as Prometrium, can be prescribed by a doctor. You can also use an over-the-counter progesterone cream designed for menopausal women. The progesterone should alleviate the remaining Lupron side effects. After five to seven days of progesterone therapy, stop taking the pills. The drop in progesterone levels should cause menstruation to begin. If it does not, contact a medical professional, as more aggressive treatment may be necessary.
