How to Recognize the First Signs of Being Pregnant

When trying to conceive, many women anxiously await the first signs of being pregnant. If this is a second, third, or fourth pregnancy, those symptoms may be easy to recognize and a woman might not even need to take a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy. On the other hand, if this is a woman's first pregnancy it may be a little more difficult to recognize the first signs of being pregnant because she is not sure what to look for and has never experienced the symptoms. Here's how to detect the first signs of being pregnant.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your sleeping habits. Have you been unusually tired lately? Fatigue is one of the first signs of being pregnant, and it can seem extreme.

    • 2

Try to eat meat. If even the thought of cooking or eating meat makes your stomach turn, you may be pregnant. A rise in pregnancy hormones makes many women dodge certain foods, and this is another one of the first signs of being pregnant.

    • 3

Sniff around. If you seem to have a more sensitive sense of smell it may be because you are pregnant. A heightened sense of smell is very common during pregnancy.

    • 4

Gently nudge your chest and see if your breasts feel unusually tender. Many women have such sensitive breasts during early pregnancy that riding in a car over bumps is very uncomfortable. Breast sensitivity is another early sign of pregnancy.

    • 5

Track your trips to the bathroom. Set a time period of several hours and record how many times you urinate during this time period. If you have a frequent urge to urinate, this may be because of early pregnancy.

Lastly, if you are still not sure if you are pregnant or not, take an at home pregnancy test or schedule an appointment with your doctor or midwife to confirm the pregnancy.
