Baby Delivery Checklist

When the time has come to deliver your baby, you should have bags packed with items that will assist you during and after labor and delivery. There are a number of items that you will be glad you have packed, both before and after your baby has arrived. Make sure you not only pack items for yourself, but also for your partner and baby.

  1. Paperwork

    • When you go to the hospital to delivery your baby, they will give you paperwork to fill out (if you haven't completed it already) and ask for your ID and insurance. Make sure you bring a valid form of ID, your insurance cards, any hospital paperwork you have filled out and your birth plan, if desired. It is a good idea to bring a folder to hold all of the paperwork you are bringing and another folder to hold any other paperwork you will be given during your hospital stay. After the delivery of your baby you will most likely receive large amounts of informational papers and more paperwork that must be completed.

    Items for Labor

    • To help you during delivery, bring items that will help you concentrate and relax. Massage oils, a favorite pillow, music and a focal point, such as a picture, are a few items you may want to pack. Other items to include may be reading material, warm socks, flip flops or slippers and a robe to wear in the room or while walking the hallways. Pack personal items to keep you feeling clean, such as facial soap or wipes, a toothbrush and toothpaste, hair bands and a brush, contact solution and glasses, lip balm and makeup. Make sure you bring a camera and video camera to capture any special moments.

    Items After Delivery

    • After the delivery of your baby you will probably be hungry and tired. Pack healthy snack items and beverages to keep in your room that will hold you over while waiting for hospital food. Bring prenatal vitamins and any medicines you may be taking. You will want to pack comfortable nightgowns and clothes to wear during your hospital stay that give easy access for nursing. Other items you may wish to pack include sanitary pads, nursing pads, soap, shampoo and conditioner, a razor and shaving cream and any other desired toiletries. Your partner should pack comfortable clothes, toiletries, money for food and perhaps a laptop and reading material.

    Items for Baby

    • Bring any items you will need for your newborn. Bring a blanket, diapers and wipes, burp cloths, booties and a hat, an undershirt and a comfortable going home outfit that will not rub the umbilical cord. You will need a car seat installed if you have not done so already.

    • Its not about being naked. To make a baby, a sperm cell from a man needs to fertilize an egg cell from a woman. * Sperm is released from the mans body during ejaculation, which can happen during sexual intercourse.* The egg is released from the woman

    • Sometimes, for reasons unknown, contractions will slow down or stop during labor. While many people believe that medical intervention is automatically needed if this happens, there are a couple of natural methods to try first. If contractions do not
