Fundraising Ideas for Adoptions
Adoption is a wonderful way to grow your family, but it can be very expensive. There are grants and private loans available to cover some of the expenses, but it's a good idea to do some fundraising as well. It will help you to build up your finances and it will help you get the word out that you are adopting, which will also build up your emotional support base.

Change in a bottle
-
Distribute a flier about your upcoming adoption. Include why you are adopting, from which country if you are adopting overseas and perhaps a quote about adoption. Stuff the fliers into baby bottles and give them to family and friends. Ask each person to fill the bottle with their spare change and return it to you. Most people will be happy to donate to your cause and one 12 oz. bottle holds about $20 worth of change.
Making room for baby
-
Hold a yard sale. Your fliers and ads should tell people you are "making room for baby". Not only do most people enjoy looking for bargains at yard sales, but if they know it's for a good cause they are less likely to haggle over prices. You might even just get donations toward the adoption.
Host a "pre-baby" party
-
Host a party for moms (or parents) only and play Bunco or another party game (See Reference 2). Charge admission with proceeds going toward the adoption. Be sure to budget for party food and prizes when you set the admission price. Alternately, ask each guest to bring one food dish and ask for donations rather than charging a set price.
