How to Size the Hotslings Infant Carrier

Hotslings is a brand of newborn and infant sling-style carriers. The slings can be adapted as your baby grows by enabling you to carry your child three different ways -- the "cradle hold" for newborns, the "kangaroo hold" for infants 2 to 8 months old and the "hip carry" for children from 4 months old up to 35 pounds. In order to ensure your comfort while using the carrier, it is important to choose a Hotsling of the correct size. There are several methods of determining the proper size for you.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape

Instructions

  1. Measurement Method

    • 1

Hold the beginning of the measuring tape at the outer edge of your right shoulder. Pull the length of the measuring tape diagonally across your body, landing at the top of your left hip bone.

    • 2

Read the measurement at the top of your hip bone. The measurement should be a number in the 20s.

    • 3

Determine the proper size Hotsling for you according to this measurement. If your measurement was 22 inches, you will need a size 1 Hotsling. A 23-inch measurement is a size 2; 24 inches, size 3; 25 inches, size 4; 26 inches, size 5; 27 inches, size 6; and 28 inches, size 7.

    Size/ Weight Method

    • 4

Determine the clothing size that you most commonly wear. If your clothing size is Petite, you will probably be most comfortable with a size 1 Hotsling. If you ordinarily wear an Extra Small, try size 2. If you're a Small, choose size 3; Medium, size 4; Large, size 5; Extra Large, size 6; and 1X, size 7.

    • 5

Use your weight to help you determine the correct Hotsling size. If you weigh up to 110 pounds, choose a size 1 Hotsling. If your weight is between 111 and 130 pounds, get a size 2; 131 to 150 pounds, size 3; 151 and 180 pounds, size 4; 181 and 210 pounds, size 5; 211 and 220 pounds, size 6; and 221 to 240 pounds, size 7.

Use your bra cup size to help you determine your proper Hotsling size. If you're an "A" cup, a size 1 Hotsling may be right for you. If you're an "A," "B" or "C" cup, try a size 2; a "C" or "D," size 3; a "D" or "E" cup, size 4. If you're an "E" cup or larger, you will need to order a sling in at least a size 5.
