Signs of Teething in a Six Month Old

Most babies will begin to grow their first baby tooth between the ages of four and seven months. During this time, your child will display several symptoms of teething, some physical and other behavioral. Recognizing these symptoms can allow you to help your baby with discomfort due to teething.

  1. Physical

    • Your baby may develop a facial rash from drool when teething. Excessive drooling can also cause your baby to cough.

      Additionally, you may notice your child's gums swell and become sensitive, causing the cheeks to become red or bleeding from the gums. Oral inflammation may also cause a fever.

    Behavioral

    • Your child may display several behavioral symptoms due to teething including refusing food and excessive irritability or fussiness. Your infant may also begin to bite.

      When teething, your child may have difficulty falling asleep or remaining asleep during the night. Even children who have been relatively successful sleepers may experience sleeping difficulties when teething.

      A six-month-old baby may rub their cheeks or pull their ears when teething.
