Transporting Two Babies From the Car to the Stroller to the Day Care
Having several babies is tough on so many levels. It can take a financial, physical and emotional toll. Whether your babies are twins or just very close in age, there are challenges to having several babies at once. One of the big problems that parents may run into is just the logistics of how to care for and transport several babies. Rest assured, this will get easier; you will get the hang of managing this. In the meantime, though, there are a few ways to handle getting several young children into day care at once.

Prepare Ahead of Time
-
Before leaving the house, make sure each baby is fed, changed and dressed. This, of course, doesn't guarantee that no one will be wet or hungry by the time you reach day care, but at least it stacks the odds in your favor. Before leaving, pack and check their diaper bags for day care and make sure your babies have everything they will need for the day, such as diapers, wipes, formula, extra clothes and favorite toys. Label the diaper bag or bags clearly with your children's names. If it helps, keep a checklist on your fridge on a dry-erase board that you can scan every morning to make sure you have everything. Unless the day care you use has a requirement that each child have a separate bag, it's up to you whether one bag or two is more convenient; experiment a bit and see what works best.
Getting Out of the Car
-
Getting everyone out of the car can be one of the trickiest times. Keep calm and remember that both babies should be in the back seat of the car in individual seats and securely fastened. This is important not only for safety while driving. It's also part of the chaotic moment during which you are removing the babies one at a time to put each into a stroller so that the other baby can't become injured from being free and alone in the car, as well as for safety from strangers. Keep the diaper bag on the seat right next to you so you don't forget it and take it with you as you get out of the car. Put it on top of the car while you get the stroller out of the trunk or the back of the car and set it up. Place the diaper bags in the basket underneath the double stroller. Now roll the stroller around to one side of the car and get one baby out of the back seat to place in the stroller, either in her carrier or just sitting in the seat for older babies. Shut the door and go around to the other side of the car to repeat the process with the other baby. Always make sure that while you are securing one baby in the stroller, the car door is secured or blocked so that the other baby is safe while your hands are full. Before walking away from the car, make sure both babies are in the stroller and the diaper bag is underneath.
Going Into Day Care
-
If possible, bring the babies to day care before or after the greatest rush of people come in, as it's hard to maneuver two babies and a big clumsy stroller in a crowd. When this isn't an option, try to steer clear of clumps of people as you approach the day care. This will keep you from bumping into anyone and keep other people from being all over the babies as you approach. If there is no one around to open the day care door for you, hold the stroller with one hand and pull the door open with the other. Hold the door open with your body and then pull the stroller inside the day care.
Tips for Handling Multiple Babies
-
Whenever possible, enlist help. Having someone go with you to drop the babies off, as well as for other tasks, can make all the difference. Even if it's just someone to hold the doors for you or to get the stroller set up while you start getting the babies out of the car, the job is much easier with more people.
