Instructions
Take the car seat out of the box and remove any plastic covering or packaging. Read the instruction booklet that comes with the car seat. Make sure you have the appropriate car seat for the age and size of your child. Make sure all the straps are present and properly installed. If you do not have an instruction booklet, or you have any questions, you can visit the Cosco website for help. Place the car seat on the center back seat of your vehicle. If the car seat is for an infant, it should be rear-facing. If using a convertible seat, once your child reaches the maximum limitations for rear-facing, the seat should be faced forward. If your Cosco car seat and your car are equipped with the latch system, skip ahead to Step 9. If not, go on to Step 4. Pull out the seat belt so you have plenty of room to work with it. Slide the seat belt through the back of the car seat. There will be a space between the hard plastic frame and the back of the child's seat for the seat belt to slide through. If it is an infant seat, you'll want to slide the seat belt through the plastic clips on the base of the car seat. Buckle the seat belt, and then pull the straps so there is no leeway. The seat belt should be tightened completely. Lock the seat belt. To do this, pull the top of the seat belt out of the folder as if you are going to put the seat belt on. Keep pulling the belt until it reaches the end. At that point the seat belt will lock. Let go of the seat belt to allow it to retract. Try to pull it again. If it is properly locked, the seat belt shouldn't budge the second time you pull it. Most front facing car seats come with a tether system: a hook attached to the end of a strap coming out of the back of the car seat. Check your car to see if you have holders for the hook. The holders would be located on the top back of the seat, possibly behind a head rest. In some models, they could be located on the back of the seat or on the floor behind. All newer cars should have them. If you do, hook the safety latch into the holder and tighten the strap. Choose the latch system. Most newer cars and Cosco car seats come equipped with a latch system, which can be used in place of the seat belt. Both the car seat and the car must be equipped with a latch system in order for this type of installation to work. On the bottom rear of a car seat with the latch system are two hooks. In the crack between your car bench and the back of the bench are two anchors. With the car seat sideways on the seat, put the hook farthest from you down on the anchor. It will click into place. Move the car seat so the back of the car seat is against the back of the seat and attach the second hook the same way you attached the first hook. Finally, attach the tethered hook on the rear top of the car seat as explained in Step 8.
