How to Install the Graco Nautilus Car Seat

Graco, the maker of various models of car seats, manufactures the Nautilus car seat. Its high back design keeps children up to 65 pounds harnessed appropriately, providing an extra measure of safety as it keeps your child secured with a seat belt or tethers as well as a harness. Installing the seat is simple, taking only a few minutes, and you have the option to secure it with a seat belt only or utilize the Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) system, provided in most vehicle modesl after 2003.

Instructions

  1. With a Vehicle Lap or Shoulder Belt

    • 1

Clip the lower LATCH anchors on the storage bars located on each side of the back of the car seat to store them when not in use. Clip the tether on the storage bar located on the top on the side of the car seat to store it.

    • 2

Set the seat against the back of a forward-facing vehicle seat in the vehicle's back seat.

    • 3

Grasp the seat belt and thread it through the belt slot openings located on the back of the car seat.

    • 4

Install the locking clip provided with the car seat if using a seat belt with a sliding latch plate as opposed to a locking latch plate. Buckle the belt and pull it back hard to tighten it. Unbuckle the belt without letting it retract any more. Attach the locking clip to both the lap and shoulder belt by holding them together and sliding each side of the belts underneath the locking clip so that the middle of the clip rests behind the belt, but the sides of the clip are visible on the belts' front.

    • 5

      Buckle the seat belt.

    • 6

Push down with your hand in the middle of the seat. Pull and allow the seat belt to retract to tighten it or pull the belt back if it does not retract on its own.

    With LATCH

    • 7

Unclip the LATCH anchors and tether from its storage bars. Loosen the LATCH as far as it will extend.

    • 8

Set the seat against the back of a forward-facing vehicle seat.

    • 9

Clip the LATCH anchors to the vehicle's anchors located where the back and the bottom seat meet.

    • 10

Push down on the seat's middle and pull on the connectors to tighten.

    • 11

Hook the tether clip to the anchor point in your vehicle, often located on the back of the vehicle's seat. Check your vehicle's owner's manual to locate your anchor point. Pull on the tether strap to tighten it.
