How to Clean a Britax Car Seat

Car seats see a lot of wear and tear, from spilled snacks to diaper disasters. Cleaning your child's car seat can be a time-consuming task, and the cover will need to air dry, so before you start, make sure you won't be needing your seat for several hours. Cleaning instructions for a Britax car seat differ from many other car seats. With some time and soap, though, your Britax seat will look as good as new.

Things You'll Need

  • Britax car seat
  • Britax car seat owner's manual
  • Water
  • Mild soap
  • Small brush
  • Sponge
  • Towel
  • Stain remover, if needed
  • Soft-bristled brush

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Your Britax Car Seat

    • 1

Remove the car seat from the vehicle and place it on a flat surface. Using a vacuum with a small attachment, remove any crumbs on the seat. Move your fingers around the crevices to get as many crumbs and debris as possible out of the seat.

    • 2

Fill a large bucket with cold water and mild soap, such as a castile soap or dishwashing liquid. Place the cover in the bucket and scrub it with a small brush, or simply agitate it and move it around with your hands. If you notice a particular stain, you can pre-treat it with a laundry stain remover before placing it in the water. Pay special attention to stained areas while you're washing the cover by hand.

    • 3

Line dry the cover or simply lay it flat to dry to prevent shrinking that can be caused by machine dryers.

    • 4

Clean the shell while the cover is drying. Wipe down the shell with a sponge and warm water, paying special attention to areas that are sticky or dirty. Towel dry the shell. Clean the seat's harness as you did the shell.

    • 5

Clean the harness adjuster. Loose debris, such as food, could interfere with the effectiveness of the adjuster mechanism. Brush away debris with a soft-bristled brush, then use a sponge and warm, soapy water to clean the adjuster. Towel dry.

    • 6

If desired, remove the seat's buckle to clean any debris. Soak the buckles in warm, soapy water.

    • 7

Once all the parts are clean and dry, reassemble the seat and install it correctly in your car.
