How to Reuse Nipples From Bottles With the Next Child
Bottle-fed babies require clean, sanitized nipples. Nipples that are in good condition may be reused for the next child, provided they are cleaned and stored properly. Nipples made out of silicone are more durable and can withstand multiple sterilizations, while latex nipples deteriorate more with use. Although some pediatricians insist a thorough dishwasher cycle is sufficient to sterilize bottle nipples, most moms feel more comfortable using the traditional method of sanitizing in boiling water on the stove.

How to Reuse Nipples From Bottles With the Next Child
Inspect the nipples carefully. Discard any that have color variances, feel sticky, have bite marks or leak around the rim when placed on a bottle with the cap in place. Sort the nipples that are suitable for reuse according to flow. Small openings are required for newborns and young babies. Larger openings are for older babies and for adding cereal in bottle feedings. Label the resealable plastic bags for "slow flow," "medium flow" and "fast flow." Place a large pot on the stove. Fill the pot two-thirds full with water. Turn the burner on medium-high. Add nipples when the water begins to boil. Set the timer for 5 to 10 minutes. Using tongs, remove the nipples from the pot when the timer goes off. Allow the nipples to dry on clean paper towels. Store in the appropriately labeled bag when the nipples are completely dry.
