Meal Ideas for an 11 Month Old
By the time your baby reaches 11 months of age, he's exploring the world around him. Crawling and pulling up to stand are just a few skills your child is mastering to reach and see new things. The ability to grasp and pass objects from one hand to another is one reason to introduce meals that promote exploration and self-feeding.

Breakfast
-
Breakfast is as important for babies as it is for adults. Pancakes, waffles and french toast can be cut into small pieces that your baby can pick up. Bananas are soft in texture and can be mushed and grasped easily as well. Create a colorful fruit salad consisting of chopped, small sized pieces of grapes, cantaloupes and pineapples. A finely chopped boiled egg or sausage adds edible bite-sized protein to a breakfast meal. Oatmeal and applesauce can be fed by spoon for breakfast. Also consider lightly toasted bread or bagels, bite size pieces of cereals or Cheerios as a morning meal.
Lunch
-
Incorporating finger foods into your meal plans can help your baby develop fine-motor skills and explore colors, smells and textures. Food pieces should be easy to gum or bite and not present a choking hazard for your baby. Lunch meal ideas include: pea-size pieces of cooked chicken or other soft meat and mashed potatoes; small cubes of tofu; well-cooked pasta spirals cut into pieces; and small pieces of well-cooked vegetables. Sweet vegetables blended with tomato make a pasta sauce that can be added to pasta for easy eating.
Dinner
-
Dinner options for your 11-month-old include spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, baked potatoes, soups, turkey and dressing and baked chicken. Mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots and mashed sweet potatoes make good side dishes, as do broccoli and cheese, chicken-flavored rice and dumplings.
