How to Use Cabbage Leaves to Wean
When you and your baby finally decide to wean, it may take a while for your body to get the message. Even if you wean slowly, your body will continue making milk, which could lead to painful engorgement. Relief may be as simple as walking to your ice box. Green cabbage leaves are a natural remedy for engorgement, and putting them on your breasts can help get you through the few days it takes for your body to adjust to weaning and stop making milk.
Things You'll Need
- Green cabbage leaves
- Rolling pin
- Dark-colored bra
Instructions
Peel leaves from the head of the raw cabbage and wash them in cold water. Lay the cabbage leaves on the counter and crush them lightly with a rolling pin. This will make the leaves more pliable so you can wrap them around your breasts. Place the cabbage leaves in the refrigerator to cool. Once the leaves are completely cool, wrap them around each breast. Use more than one leaf, if necessary, to cover all the breast tissue. Your breast tissue can extend fro, the center of your chest to your armpits. Put a bra on over the cabbage leaves. Choose a dark bra to avoid any potential staining from the leaves. Wear the cabbage leaves until they feel warm and begin to wilt. Most leaves will need to be replaced at least every two hours. If you still feel pain from the engorgement, replace the leaves with fresh ones.
