How to Choose BPA-Free Baby Bottles
BPA is short for bisphenol A. This chemical is used in many hard plastics, including some that make up baby bottles. Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has stated that BPA is safe, several other studies suggest otherwise. In fact, BPA is considered unsafe because it mocks certain hormones, such as estrogen. Parents who don't want to take any risks with their children's health will want to choose baby bottles that are free of this chemical. Fortunately, there are a few clues a parent can look for to determine whether a baby bottle has BPA in it or not.
Instructions
Purchase glass baby bottles. Since BPA is only found in plastic, parents can feel confident in buying baby bottles that are made of glass. Check to see if the baby bottles were made by one of the following six companies: Gerber, Playtex Products Inc., Disney First Years, Evenflo Co., Dr. Brown and Avent America Inc. If so, the bottles are free from BPA. According to The Washington Post, these top companies voluntarily agreed to no longer sell bottles in the United States that contain BPA. Look for a number on the bottom of the plastic bottles. Any number between one and six is free of BPA, and therefore a good choice. Stay clear of bottles that have the number seven or the letters PC, which stands for polycarbonate. These contain BPA. Previous:How to Pump Milk
