How to Deodorize a Diaper Pail
You toss your baby̵7;s dirty diapers into a diaper pail to keep the smell from spreading, but eventually the pail itself may develop an odor. Even if you̵7;ve lined the pail with a plastic bag, odor-causing bacteria from soiled diapers can still get into the pail. Give the diaper pail a periodic thorough cleaning to deodorize the container so you won̵7;t have to worry about the dirty diaper smell permeating your entire house.
Things You'll Need
- 2 cups white vinegar
- Rags
- Borax powder
- 1/2 cup chlorine bleach
Instructions
Take the plastic liner out of the pail. Put the diaper pail in the bathtub. Fill the pail with hot water and add two cups of white vinegar. Let the pail soak for 30 minutes. Scrub the inside and outside of the pail with a rag and the vinegar and water mixture. Rinse the pail inside and out with hot water. Dry it thoroughly with a rag. Sprinkle borax powder in the bottom of the pail before putting in a clean plastic bag. Borax will help absorb any remaining odor left in the diaper pail. Clean the diaper pail weekly with a mixture of bleach and water, even when it doesn't smell. Fill the pail with warm water and add 1/2 cup chlorine bleach. Let the pail soak for 10 minutes. The bleach solution will kill any bacteria in the pail, keeping it sanitary and reducing odors.
