How to Introduce Creative Activities to Children in a Fun Way

Creative projects and lesson ideas can be used for all subjects, not just art. You can use fun activities and crafts to help children develop a love of reading and a fascination with math and science. Reinforce traditional teaching methods with hands-on projects that make even difficult concepts easier for kids to understand.       Encourage kids to read by making them a part of the story. Kids avoid reading because they have not yet experienced that stories can transport them to a new world of imagination. Use traditional fairy tales but change the story-line and characters to include the kids. Let the kids rewrite the story from their perspective and how they would want their character to behave. Help school-age children make reading-related crafts such as books with pictures and fill-in-the-word stories and bookmarks.

      Teach math with creative crafts and stories to illustrate math concepts to kids. Make folded paper crafts to teach preschoolers about shapes and school-age kids about geometry.       Inspire kids to learn about plants and biology with creative science projects that involve hands-on activities. Take a walk through a wooded area in the spring or summer months and collect a variety of seeds from trees. Tape them to a poster board and label them according to what plant they came from; ask the children to give their ideas on how the seeds are spread by nature, according to their design and shape. Show kids how to toss up 'helicopter seeds' from an oak tree to see that they are carried by the wind. Other seeds that have sharp burrs can get caught on clothing as well as the fur of animals.
